Breeding Stock

Deer is what we do – full time, all the time. We have bred to the top bucks in the country and continue to add new, top genetics every year. We typically have over 200 fawns each spring. Our deer are identified with microchips that establish a unique ID for them that they have throughout their lives.

Much has changed since we started our farm. We have taken the steps necessary to stay abreast of these changes. Most significantly is the practice of artificial insemination. We did our first AI in 1999 with mixed results. We now routinely AI approximately 100 deer a year with about a 75% success rate. Using semen from across the country, we have been able to bring in some of the best genetics and cross them with our own lines.

WRW Rex @ 3             To implement our AI program and stay current with changing TB testing requirements, we have built and used a handling system since 1998 for our deer. We are TB Accredited and therefore run over 400 animals through our system for testing. We have a great deal of experience with chutes and handling our deer. We offer consulting services to those of you just starting.

We are also CWD monitored, with our starting date being May 2, 2002.

Our breeding program has utilized the top deer in the industry. In the past few years we have bred to High Roller, RDM Goliath, Maxim, PA Geronimo, AGN BamBam, Avalanche and Blue Mountain Bill. Crossing these lines with our unique bloodlines produces OUTSTANDING deer!

Please take a look below and at our Photo Gallery to see our breeders for this year. You can also see what semen we have available. We are especially excited about some of our 2 year olds.

Breeding crosses fall 2011

Ballistic x Rex

Top of WRW lines.  Ballistic 561-6/8” at 3.  He is out of HyJax (High Roller x Jack doe) and a Redoy Ruger doe (Redoy Ruger x Jack doe).  Do not have any yearlings yet to evaluate.  I would expect this cross to yield some very impressive large framed nontypical bucks.  The does are Rex (High Roller x Jack) daughters out of Blue Mountain Bill does (BMB x Jack).  Lots of Jack (4x) plus High Roller (2x) sweetened with Blue Mt. Bill.

 So Big x Jack

These Jack daughters have been spectacular producers for WRW.  Most of our premium stock has been produced through these does.  Our Jack does are a product of Jack s WRW Ruger.  Ruger was one of our first breeder bucks dating back to the mid-late 1990’s and obviously did well.  Ruger was a large framed typical with good tine length and just a few stickers and splits.  So Big is a Blue Mt. Bill x  Jack cross that offers an exciting possibility.  So Big is a dead ringer for his dad Blue Mt. Bill, just bigger.  Blue Mt. Bill topped out around 365 @ 6 or 7.  So Big is 400” @ 4.  Lots of mass and character.  What Blue Mt. Bill did with the Jack girls I expect again and more with this cross.

 Rex x Blue Mt. Bill

The value I place on this cross is demonstrated in my actions and commitment to this breeding.  I currently have 24 does of this cross in my breeding program (all bred with Ballistic).  Ten more coming 1 year olds to be bred next year and the crop to be produced again this spring.  40-50 does by the end of 2012.  Rex is a direct High Roller son (High Roller x Jack) with a large heavy frame.  He consistently scores 300+ with a mostly typical rack (7×7).  The does are a cross of Blue Mt. Bill x Jack – sisters to all the great Blue Mt. Bill sons that WRW has produced.

Super Glide x Blue Mt. Bill

This cross is one of my favorites.  The possibilities are awesome.  Super Glide is a John x Stretch son.  John is a direct Jack son with a 31-1/2” inside spread.  Stretch was a 6×6 typical with a 29-1/2” inside spread.  Super Glide scored 333 with a 34-1/2” inside spread.  Obviously our goal here is to push the Blue Mt. Bill blood even wider.  This is the 2nd year I have made this cross.

 Rooster x Blue Mt. Bill

First time cross and new alignment.  Rooster is a 3 year old (330”) with insane mass, double drops and a traffic stopping look.  He is an Avalanche x Jack cross now bred to the Blue Mt. Bill daughters (Blue Mt. Bill x Jack).  I am looking for huge, heavy wide frames and lots of drops.

 Big Time x Billy Jack

At (Blue Mt. Bill x Jack) crossed with Billy Jack does.  Billy Jack is a Blue Mt. Bill x Jack cross bred to High Roller does (High Roller x Jack).  Two Blue Mt. Bill hits, 3 Jack hits and a High Roller for good measure.  Big Time has a very eye appealing typical frame and long tines.  Billy Jack is massive with drops and scored 300+ at 2.  Sky is the limit with these guys.

 Cutter x Jim Bob

Cutter is an Avalanche x Jack cross.  Another effort and combination to extend the Avalanche influence at WRW.  Cutter has a mostly typical frame with several drops and better than average mass.  He scores right at 300.  The Jim Bob does are a product of Jim Bob crossed to our Maxin daughters.  Jim Bob (Spongebob x Stretch) scored 300 with a typical frame but with a double row of G tines.  Stretch was a clean typical, 29-1/2 “ wide and 6×6 frame.

Nitty Gritty x Blue River and Wild Bill

This cross should be high on Wow factor. Nitty Gritty (Blue Mt. Bill x Jack) is a super Blue Mt. Bill son with a wide double double drop frame just under 300 inches at 2 years old.  The does are similarly built (Blue Mt. Bill x Jack) and double double drops all the way around.  Fawns ought to be spectacular with 2 x Jack and 2 x Blue Mt. Bill.

 RX2 x AGN Bam Bam

RX2 is a 2 year old Rex son (Rex x Blue Mountain Bill) bred to our Bam Bam daughters (BamBam x John).  We are aiming for a heavy extra wide typical frame out of this cross.  This cross brings together 3x Jack with Blue Mt. Bill and a dose of High Roller and Stretch.  All this linked to AGN BamBam, super heavy 450 inches.

WRW Geronimo x John

Wide, wide super typical.  WRW Geronimo is a PA Geronimo x Jack cross with an 8 x 7 frame.  John 30+ inches wide (John x Stretch) and Stretch 29-1/2” wide.  Typical wide, flat with 6×6+ frames.

 Willy Nilly x Buzz

This should be another power house cross.  Willy Nilly is our largest Blue Mt. Bill x Jack two year old scoring about 320 @ 2.  He is massive with drops and is bred to our Buzz daughters (Buzz x Maxin).  Jack at evey corner with High Roller, Blue Mt. Bill and Maxin.  My goal here is big big non typicals but almost anything is possible.

Blue Mt. Bill Pen 1 drop x pied

This breeding combines the Blue Mt. Bill line (Blue Mt. Bill x Jack) with my pied does.  Each year I select one of my best young bucks to breed these girls and continue to enhance our piebald lines.  This year I chose this buck because of his big split drops and eye catching appeal.  He scored 300” and is a very attractive sire.  I also have 6 of my white does with him because of my confidence in this buck.

TomTom (pied) x Blue Mt. Bill

TomTom is a piebald buck out of MaxJax (Maxin x Jack) bred to a pied mother.  We are breeding him for the first time to our Balsam Bob does (Balsam Bob x Jack son/Stretch), which we hope will produce mostly typical offspring.  TomTom is a typical framed buck (170’s) and Balsam Bob was typical, wide with a few splits and flyers.  Balsam Bob also had drops some years.  He scored 263 at 2.  Last year we bred these does to another pied buck and got great bright, flashy pied fawns.  Our objective is to produce another group of flashy pied fawns.  It is all about the color.
